The May Lab

Defining the multidimensional mechanisms that govern organ development and regeneration.

About Us

The May Lab explores how cells communicate to build, maintain, and repair organs. We investigate how immune signals, rare cell populations, and dynamic cellular interactions coordinate exocrine gland development, homeostasis, and regeneration in the airway and salivary systems.

Our work spans embryonic morphogenesis to adult tissue remodeling. By integrating developmental biology, immunology, single-cell genomics, and advanced imaging, we define the mechanisms that shape organ architecture and restore tissue function after injury.

Through defining how cellular relationships govern epithelial structure and function, we generate foundational insights with broad relevance to pulmonary health, oral biology, and regenerative medicine.
